COME AND SING

Sat, Feb 8th 2025 at 10:30 am - 5:30 pm

A one day workshop learning to sing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat took place on February 8th at the Lutterworth Methodist Church

Over 70 participants turned up on February 8th for our annual "Come and Sing" 1-day choral workshop.  This was an excellent turnout for the day: maybe due to the chance of singing the ever popular "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat", or maybe because there's not a lot else to do on a cold, wet, February Saturday.

Hosted by Lutterworth Methodist Church, the day began at 08:30 with Rotary members setting up the tables and chairs and bringing along an incredible array of cakes ready for the provided lunch and afternoon tea.

By 10:00 am, our "choir for the day" participants had started to arrive, and at 10:30 am, Professor of Music Bill Tomkins (Musical  Director) supported by a youthful and  talented accompanist (Colin Millington) started the proceedings with a "warmup" of the vocal cords.  Then followed an excellent day of music and singing as the various and well-known songs from the show were rehearsed and sung.

A light lunch of sandwiches, fruit, and cake (lots and lots of cake) was served at 1:30 pm, before returning for the afternonn session.  Friends and family were invited to a short performance at the end of afternoon rehearsals, but before this came afternoon tea for everyone (with lots more cake).  The short performance was a delight to listen to, and it was evident from the volume that the choir had learnt a lot and really enjoyed the day.  A fitting finale to a day's work.

The Rotary Club of Lutterworth Wycliffe would like to extend a big, big thankyou to Musical Director Bill and accompanist Colin along with the Methodist Church for allowing us to make use of their premises  Proceeds from the day will go to LOROS and other Rotary approved charities.   Also, a big thankyou to Rotarian Judy Fitz-Hugh, the principal organiser of the day.
