Rotary Young Writer Competition

The aims of Rotary Young Writer Competition are to engage with pupils at primary and secondary schools with the objective of enhancing their writing skills. Each year a theme is communicated then youngsters use their imagination and creativity to write a piece of prose or poetry which is then judged and prizes awarded to the three winning entries. The first placed entry in each age category is then submitted to our Rotary District Competition, the winner of which goes on to a Rotary National Competition.

Our Club has built good relationships with local schools and colleges which promote the competition to their students which, over the years, have produced excellent pieces of work.

Once again, The Rotary Club of Lutterworth Wycliffe is promoting the Rotary Young Writer Competition for 2024-2025 to encourage pupils in local schools to write a poem or piece of prose on the theme 'WONDERFUL WATER'.  A poem must not exceed 40 lines and prose no more than 550 words. Posters are now being circulated to Swinford Primary, St. Mary's (Bitteswell), and John Wycliffe Primary.  Thomas Estley Community College hafe already agreed to participate.  Entries must be via the pupil's school and accompanied by an official entry form obtainable via email to Tony Bailey tony.bailey34@btinternet.com.  There are three categories for ages at 31st August 2024: primary school pupils to age 11; Intermediate 11-13 years and Senior 14-17 years. Prizes will be awarded to the winning entries which will be judged on work that engages interest and the use of imagination and creativity.
