RUSHDEN'S HOMELESS CENTRE AND RECOVERY HOUSE

• The project began in 2015 with a resdential RECOVERY HOUSE for men recovering from addiction - drugs, drink, etc.
• Each resident goes through a 6 month stay in a shared evironment with strict rules and supervision.  They follow a tried and trusted "12 steps" recovery programme.
• In regular meetings they are encouraged to open up about their situation and their progress (along the lin of Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous) but in a safe, caring community house. Total honesty is required and encouraged.
• During the 6 months they are taught to budget, cook and care for themselves before moving to a "Dry House" where they have greater independence but continue attending meetings and under supervision from Recovery House.
• They are then helped, when they feel able and ready, to move into their own accommodation.   They need furniture and basic eupment, e.g. knives and forks etc., and the organisation is looking for somewhere to store donations until residents move.
• The project enjoys a very good success rate where men are willing to change and learn the strength of mutual support and guidance.
• Alongside the Recovery House project, since the Night Shelter was closed during the Covid pademic, a HOMELESS CENTRE has been opened in the town centre.  Residents may stay here 24 hours a day under secure oversight.  They are taught essential life skills and their indiviual problems are addressed so that they can move on to their own accommodation.
