Young Writer

Highly Commended for Amelie

Young Writer Amelie, with her Girls' Brigade Captain, being presented with her Highly Commended Certificate by Club President, Judy Webb.

Amelie, aged 8,  is a member of the Girls' Brigade in Higham Ferrers, and entered our Young Writer's competition.  She was put forward to the District level of the competition where she gained a Highly Commended certificate.  This means that she was very close to going forward to the national stage of the competition.

We are very proud of Amelie and we were happy to be able to present her with her certificate, socially distanced and in the garden of her Girls' Brigade captain.  She also received a book token for her efforts.

Here is her story:

The Most Phenomenal Day of my Life

This day starts off as any other day. I hadn’t slept well at all. A blade of silver moonbeam was shining so bright it could blind you. So here is where it starts. My Grandma, my Mum and my sister Alyssa were in the living room. I remember that we were discussing where we wanted to go for the day. My Grandma let me choose where we wanted to go, I chose to go to Wacky Warehouse. So we drove to Wacky Warehouse like any other time, we went in to find it was crowded with people. People were pushing, squabbling, and bickering just like baby birds fighting over a worm. I was very disappointed at what I was seeing. Soon we decided that we would go to Fuzzy Ed’s (which my sister calls Fuzzy Heads!). We went in and there was a party going on so we couldn’t go in. I was perplexed why every wonderful place was either too busy or shut. Despite that, I knew that Grandma would take us somewhere nicer, and yes, she did indeed! She took us to The Hub. The Hub was not particularly busy but it was a very hefty and big building. The owners of the Hub were asking for our postcode, house number and details. Grandma decided we would leave because it was such a faff getting into The Hub. She then said to Mummy that we were going to go to Pets at Home to get a goldfish each. We went into Pets at Home to get a goldfish. We found out that we had to wait a few days to come and collect the goldfish. My Grandma was exasperated at this point and demanded my Mum to get a hamster. Me and my sister wanted to adopt the hamster with red eyes because we felt bad for it. We adopted a cream ginger and white coloured hamster. We soon called him Mellow because he was so calm when we got him. He is now fully-grown and falls asleep in my arms often. If it wasn’t for my Grandma I would have never have found Mellow, my inspiration.
