RC of Bradford on Avon Are delighted to support local charity worker Valerie McGivern and the Children of Choba in Tanzania. The Club received an urgent request from the charity for help to improve their waste water management and wash facilities for female students. The current waste management system requirement had exceeded current capacity and presented a health risk. The Club was happy to be in a position to respond to the charity's request and was able to meet this request.
Choba is a small hamlet on the coast of northern Tanzania in Pangani District, Tanga Region. It has an adult population of just over 300 with the majority struggling to survive way below the poverty line by subsistence farming and fishing. The area is at estimated to be about 50 years, in development terms, behind the better-known parts of Tanzania such as Arusha and Dar es Salaam.
Children of Choba is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (Reg. no. 1138096) with an aim to help children in Choba and the surrounding villages to have a better start in life. Its main task is to run Choba English Medium Primary and Nursery Schools where their aim is to provide the highest possible standards of teaching and learning facilities and to date they have achieved marvellous results.
