The Rotary Foundation
Our club invariably gives $100 per member to the general fund and £500 to End Polio Now each year.
Programmes of The Rotary Foundation
Through Rotary Foundation grants and programmes, Rotarians and other donors help change the world. Rotary clubs and districts are providing clean water, improving the environment, sponsoring scholarships, and helping reach Rotary's No. 1 goal, eradicating polio.
PolioPlus
Rotarians have mobilised by the hundreds of thousands to eradicate polio. They're working to ensure that children are immunised against this crippling disease, despite weak infrastructure, extreme poverty, and civil strife prevailing in many countries. Since the PolioPlus program began in 1985, more than 2 billion children have received the oral polio vaccine.
Rotary's US$200 Million Challenge is The Rotary Foundation's response to $355 million in grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to help wipe out polio. Every dollar given to PolioPlus counts toward the $200 million match.
Humanitarian Grants Programmes
District Simplified Grants support the local and international service activities of Rotary districts.
Matching Grants provide matching funds for the international service projects of Rotary clubs and districts.
Educational Programmes
Ambassadorial Scholarships send undergraduate and graduate students to study abroad while supporting Rotary's mission to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace.
Group Study Exchange (GSE) supports travel for teams of non-Rotarians from a variety of professions. Rotary hosts organise an itinerary of vocational, educational, and cultural points of interest.
Rotary Peace Fellowships support graduate students and professionals in fields related to peace and conflict resolution. Each year, up to 110 fellows study at one of the Rotary Peace Centres around the globe, the nearest one being at Bradford University.
Future Vision
Through its Future Vision plan, The Rotary Foundation is creating a new grant model to enhance its support of club and district humanitarian and educational projects. A three-year pilot began in July 2010, with 100 Rotary districts testing the grant model. All districts will transfer to the new grant structure in July 2013.
What We Are Doing Now
The Seaburn Club held an event on 22nd March 2013, a Cabaret Night "Music from the Movies" including a 3 course dinner, in support of Rotary Foundation and the End Polio campaign. The evening raised almost £900 and was enjoyed by over 100 people who attended.
