GSE Team Leader Rotarian Monie Smith and her team members Steve Abide, Gwen Johns, Jessica Myers and Lisa Sanchez were entertained for the day. They drove south along the coast from South Shields and were then taken on a tour of the Stadium of Light. After buying some strips, it was off to the National Glass Centre to see some glass blowing and be shown round, including lunch at the Throwingstones Restaurant.
Next stop was the nearby St Peter's Church, built in AD 674, where they also had a guided tour. At 4.00 pm the Deputy Mayor Councillor Les Scott was kind enough to entertain them to afternoon tea in the Mayor's Parlour. He told them about the city and was clearly knowledgeable about the potato, the main farm crop of their own state of Idaho.
After a brief rest, they and some of our members went to the meeting of Wearside Rotary Club for a meal and fellowship.
