The current cost of living crisis has been reflected in the distribution of proceeds from Kinver Rotary Club’s Christmas sleigh collection, with £2,000 - almost 25% of the collection – going to the Black Country Food Bank and a further £1,000 being donated to the Brierley Hill Baby Bank.
Cheques from £100 to £300 are being given to organisations supporting youngsters and the elderly in Kinver, Enville, Wollaston and parts of Wall Heath visited by the sleigh with the remainder of the £8,750 proceeds also covering the cost of the annual Senior Citizens party, provision of dictionaries to primary school leavers and health – related charities.
Club President Neil Brazier says: “It has been hard for us to exclude a number of worthy causes we have supported in the past but Rotarians felt the financial difficulties being faced by so many families locally should be recognised at this most difficult time. The generosity of all the people in the areas in which we take the sleigh and the hard work put into the sleigh project by Rotarians and the invaluable volunteers has made it possible to make what we hope will be meaningful donations.”
