Despite Covid 19’s significant impact on Kinver Rotary Club, who have had to suspend their weekly face to face meetings and cancel all of their traditional fundraising events, resulting in less money being available for good causes locally, the club has managed to donate more than £4,000 to local food banks since the start of the pandemic.
At the earliest stage of Covid 19, the members decided at one of their fortnightly Zoom meetings, to support local food banks by donating some of the money that they would otherwise have spent at their face to face meetings. This ongoing supply of cash, together with “raids” on other club funds and grants from the organisation’s higher tier “district” level, has resulted in more than £3,500 going to the Black Country Food Bank which is within their area and a further £500 to the Kidderminster Food Bank.
Club President Arvind Sharma says: “Covid 19 has affected everybody in one way or another, but the impact on some has forced them to turn to food banks for the first time in their lives,. This has resulted in an unprecedented strain on the food banks’ resources. During this time of exceptional need, the Rotary Club of Kinver decided to support the local food banks with some financial assistance. This will continue until the Club is able to resume its usual fund raising activities.”
