Kinver Rotary working with youth on small projects, large projects, locally, nationally and internationally, encouraging young people that have similar values to rotary and supporting those that need us to make a difference in their lives.
We work with a number of secondary, primary schools and other youth associations in our area
We offer and actively encourage both schools and their pupils to participate in a variety of rotary competitions for different age groups, including photography, writing, art. Whilst our initial aim is for school participation, the actual enthusiasm shown by the pupils over many years to get involved, is reflected by the success that they have at District, Regional and National stages of the various competitions. This type of support to allow a pupil to identify and develop a particular skill has on occasions even assisted in their choice of career path.
Reflecting aspects of the community, we have competitions in respect of technology and the environment. A team from the local secondary school gained 3rd place in the national competition open to schools linked to the 1700 Rotary clubs of G.B
Pupils from the schools, eager to interact with the community, volunteer to perform at the annual Senior Citizens Party organised by the club. The event has also seen performances by the local Irish Dance school.
The art of Public Speaking has been shown to provide great personal benefits, such as building self-esteem, honing critical thinking skills, and presenting networking opportunities. Working with a local public speaking organisation, our Young Debating competitions have provided the opportunity to pitch theses skills against teams within a local secondary school academy and then at district and national events.
The club supports a Community Award recognising the achievements of local young people in respect of their work in the local community
For many years the club has provided over 200 dictionaries each year to Year 6 pupils in local primary schools. Despite living in an electronic era, dictionaries are still a useful personal aide to learning, a resource appreciated by both beneficiaries and teachers.
Primary schools have worked with the club, planting crocuses in a variety of areas in the village and alongside the National Trust with tree planting at Kinver Edge.
We have collaborated with local scout and guide groups on specific projects.
We support a local charity whose aim is to help young adults into employment and to help them along the journey the charity provides a whole host of opportunities to develop social, functional and social skills.
Internationally, we have provided funds to “Classroom in the Clouds” a UK Charity dedicated to improving education for the most underprivileged children in Nepal by the building of earthquake proof schools as well as the funding of teacher exchange programmes and school equipment.
