Nature author, journalist and birdwatcher, Dan Keel, attended our meeting on 9 September 2024 where he discussed his love for one of Britain's favourite birds, the swan.
Dan talked us through the history of this majestic bird, displayed some of his best selling photographs and interrogated some of the many myths around swans - Can they really break your arm? Does the King own them all? Are they loyal to one partner for life?
Peppered throughout his talk were some personal experiences and observations taken from his three decades of birdwatching in the hills, fields, farms and marshes of Berkshire and beyond. Dan's book Swan - Portrait of a Majestic Bird can be ordered on Amazon.
All members walked away from the meeting knowing much more than they thought possible about this beautiful creature.
