Prime Minister Theresa May welcomed as Honorary Member

The Rotary Club of Maidenhead Thames welcomed Prime Minister Theresa May and her husband Phillip to the club as honorary members. The club had approiached Mrs May earlier in the year and asked if she would like to be honorary members. On Friday 8th December 2017, following an early morning trip to Brussels to discuss Brexit arrangements, Mrs May met with club president John Clegg and other club memebers at Maidenhead Town Hall to be presented with a certificate and Rotary pin.

Mrs May said "It's a great honour, Rotary does a fantastic job locally and internationally. Its service before self and working in local communities and I'm particualrly interested in the international work in modern slavery.  I've done a lot of her in bringing legislation, so the work Rotary is doing to support victims of slavery to help us eradicate it is important.

Mrs May and Phillip are the club's first honorary members and John Clegg said "We are extremely pleased that Mrs May and her husband have become honorary members.  This will help us promote our charitable and community work in the town. As our MP, Mrs May is keen to support our work with junior schools where we set out to encourage literacy and numeracy through our work."
