One of the reasons that the Darts Marathon is so successful is that the money is raised for our Santa Special Train Trips and the pubs see a very direct and immediate link between their donation and our spending it on a good cause. Over one weekend, we run 4 trains on the South Devon Railway from Buckfastleigh to Totnes and back, each taking about 350 children and their carers. Some 850 children are given balloons, goody bags, presents and a gingerbread man. They are also entertained by a huge barrel organ, costume animals, clowns, puppets and, of course, Father Christmas. It is very hard work, but not a weekend to miss! Thanks to Ivor Netherclift and his team.
A special thanks to Felicity Murdin, George and Margaret Kempton, Jeremy and Maggie Tucker, all of whom came along to help us. George and Margaret were on all four trips dressed up as clowns and have now become a feature of this wonderful Rotary weekend.
Oh, I have forgotten to mention the bad news – Felcity has been abducted by Batman and Robin. But doesn’t that make her one of the baddies?
