Accessible Boating

Rotary supports Accessible Boating

Accessible Boating Association was founded in 1986 as a charity & received the 'Queens Award for Voluntary Service' in 2021. The boat has a hydraulic Lift which allows access for Wheelchair users as well as walking frames etc & those who are less mobile to manage steps. The windows roll up all the way around so on a excellent all round view can be had.

Rushmoor Rotary has for many years hired & funded 'The Dawn' and taken local care homes & other disabled groups out for a 4 hour trips, normally to The Barley Wharf where we can stop & have a picnic on the bank, if the weather is kind enough to us!

In recent years we have cruised down the canal over 25 times a year taking hundreds of passengers out. The groups include Knellwood, Parity, Alzheimer's Café, Open Mind, FAB Café/OFLAC,  Parkinson's & many others. The joy that this brings is immense And we hope to continue this each year. The Rotarians also enjoy being a captain of their own boat!
