Tia Melbourne from Moor House School & College will update us on the work of the school which is an International Centre of Excellence for students with Developmental Language Disorder.

Moor House School & College opened in June 1947 and was the first school of its kind and remains an International Centre of Excellence. It is a Registered Charity and a Non-Maintained Special School for students aged 7-19 whose primary barrier to learning is Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).

Our Vision is of young people, with speech and language impairment, achieving their full learning and communication potential, building an independent life and contributing positively to society.

Unlike most schools and sixth-form colleges, we provide speech and language therapy fully integrated into our curriculum. Moor House employs an extensive and highly specialist team of onsite speech and language therapists who work with students intensively in individual sessions and small groups targeting specific areas of language and communication needs.

Moor House is also at the forefront of global research into the effectiveness of therapy interventions for school-aged students with Developmental Language Disorder. This ensures the work we do with students in our setting, consistently rated OUTSTANDING by Ofsted, is driven by the most current evidence.

We strive to share our work widely through training courses, published research and resources for professionals in order to realise our vision of a world where ALL students with DLD have access to an education that allows them to thrive.
