Wigloo update (November 2024)

We've been back to once again trim the Wigloo - amazing how it grows!

Wigloo 2

In November 2022 we went back to the school to trim the Wigloo which had got slightly 'out of control' since our earlier visit!  A couple of hours work and the Wigloo will once again be able to host forest classes for the students when the weather improves.  All the off-cuts of willow will be used by the students during their Forest School sessions when they have a go at willow weaving.

The Queen's Canopy Tree Planting

In March 2022 a small team of Titsey Rotarians arrived at Hurst Green Infants School.  We were shown to the planting sites where everything was marked out ready.  After around three hours we had planted about 280 hedging plugs and over 50 small trees, some over 6ft high with wooden stakes driven in and ties.

Clearing brambles, part 2 - Wigloo

In June 2018 we returned to continue our clearing activities.  As well as clearing nettles from the forest school area, we tidied up the school’s amazing “willow wigwam” – an outside learning area made of woven willow saplings growing the school grounds

Clearing brambles

In May 2018 we tried our hand at clearing brambles, nettles and other weeds from the playing fields area at the school.  This was important because some of the overgrowth that required our attention would otherwise potentially block access for emergency services.
