Working together....

...makes us stronger. Find out how Titsey Rotary, St Silvan's Area Charity and Oxted United Charities came together to help out in our community.

We all know that joining forces can make a much bigger impact than working in isolation, and a group of local charities has taken on the challenge to see just what might be possible.

Despite the local area being a pretty affluent place, there are still many people who need a helping hand. Whether it's a broken washing machine, school uniform, essential furniture or a mobility aid, when money's tight there often isn't enough to cover unexpected costs.

When a request arose for a mobile hoist for an Oxted man with a long term disability, sustained as a result of a rugby injury, it was the perfect opportunity to combine support from local charities. This meant the cost was shared, reducing the commitment from each but still meeting the need.

St Silvan's Area Charity led the collaboration and introduced the case to Oxted United Charities and Titsey Rotary Club. Both were willing and able to step in with funding to purchase the hoist. Oxted United Charities are able to help the elderly, sick and disabled in the parish of Oxted; Titsey Rotary Club allocated funding from their work with the Oxted Beer Festival.

It’s good to be working together on this project and maybe we can find ways to cooperate again in the future. Titsey Rotary Club President Steve Marsden said: "We're very pleased to keep local donations spent on local causes such as this very deserving case. Rotary is all about driving positive change and it's great when we can do that together with others in our area."
