Captain John Tarling and fellow rotarian gave a very interesting account of his experiences as he trained fellow ship's captains in the art of sailing through the ice. The photographs and video he used clearly illustrated the diversity of wildlife that they encountered during their journeys, including four massive whales encircling the ship.
He also related a tale of people actually walking close to the ship as it was stationary in the ice floe well off the shoreline.
Certainly something that you don't often see in the Aycliffe area.
