2005 the Centenary of Rotary International

Celebrating 100 years of Rotary International (2005)

To celebrate the Centenary of Rotary International the Newton Aycliffe Club initiated an environmental improvement scheme at the southern entrance to the town by the Blue Bridge, a well known landmark. The County, Borough and Town Councils along with a number of local business partners all combined to enhance the area and provide an attractive welcome to visitors. The site now offers a pleasant roadside haven for walkers with picnic tables and seating. It now provides a warm welcome to visitors. The scheme won the District 1030 Environmental Award for 2005/6.

War Memorial (2008)

A two year programme led by the Rotary Club of Newton Aycliffe and in particular Rotarian Syd Howarth made possible
with a public appeal to replace a single flagpole with a more fitting tribute to those who gave their lives in service to their
country.
Many different local public and private sector organisations and individulas worked together to make this project possible.

The new memorial was erected for the Annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and service on 8th November 2008 in the

60th anniversary of the founding of Newton Aycliffe
