Some background on our club's longstanding and partnership with His Majesty's Band of the Royal Marines.
The Club formed a relationship with Chris Davis was the Musical Director of a Marines Band that play at one of or concerts and in 2012 when he had retired from the Marines he brought the Brighouse and Rastick Brass Band to play at our annual concert instead of the Marine Band. This was the year Brighouse and Rastick had won the Best Brass band in the World Award. (Cup attached)
Chris came to the club and talked about his life in music. His musical career had started off in the Hampshire Youth Band (Who we had close connections with at the time) and moved on to service with the Marine Band working his way through the ranks to become a Lieutenant Colonel. At one time he was Orchestra Leader on the Royal Yacht Britannia. He was in this post when Charles and Diana were married and spent part of their honeymoon on the Yacht. According to Chris, on their first night Charles gave Diana a tour of the Yacht including the Bandsman's Mess. After that Diana became a regular visitor to the Mess of an evening. (Obviously the marriage got off to a great start)
