Speaker Meeting: John Hughesdon, past Sheriff of the City of London - Club Host Richard Court, Speaker Host Graham Bone

A talk about John's time as the Sheriff of the City of London


John Hughesdon, a retired accountant and City of London alderman will be giving us a talk about his time holding the position of Sheriff of the City of London during 2004/05. His duties included helping the Lord Mayor and presenting petitions from the City to Parliament. The office of Sheriff dates back to the middle ages and is said to be of long-standing importance in the government of the City of London.

Students at BCoT turned our £200 seed money to £800 donated to the 2 supporting charities St Michaels Hospice and Hampshire Hospitals Charity.

Every year, usually the last Sunday in January we arrange for the Band of His Majesty's Royal Marines to play at the Anvil. We are graced with the Chelsea Pensioners adding to the delight of the audience.

Every year we look for young people ideally aged 16-17 to send on this amazing leadership course run by Rotary which is not only fun but teaches many skills. Its normally in the summer but its never too early to express an interest.

Every year we run an exchange with a Rotary Club in our Twin Town of Braine L'Alleud where we stay in each other's houses, visit places of interest and generally have a wonderful time. This year we went to Braine L'Alleud!
