Prestwood Nature is a local conservation charity run entirely by local volunteers based in the Prestwood region, including Great Missenden, the Hampdens, the Kingshills, North Dean and Speen. Its members include people trained in botany, conservation or ecology, but there are many more that are still learning about local nature in the Chilterns. Everyone’s welcome.
Our motto ‘Working together with nature’ best sums up what we do, with regular work parties at our conservation sites in Prestwood and Great Missenden. We also run a programme of educational walks and talks across the year. Our members take a keen interest in tracking nature in the local area, with volunteers walking a local route to record butterfly numbers since 2006; and we’re committed to providing our own nature observations to the wider scientific and conservation community.
Funds raised will go towards providing tools for our volunteer work parties and replacing outdoor benches on our sites (an amenity for the local community). Prestwood Nature also offers a small grant scheme for locals keen to learn more about nature, for example to support participation in formal training in ecology
