Rotary Club Meeting

Today we will have an informal discussion about the future of our Club. This takes the place of the formal debate which had originally been planned for last week. All members are encouraged to take part either in person or remotely by Skype.
In his recent monthly letters, "From the President's Chair", Peter has highlighted the low attendence and questioned whether the Rotary Club of Newcastle upon Tyne is still viable to continue as a Rotary Club. In his October letter he said, "Are we still viable as a Rotary Club? Should we consider a managed end point, and the process that that would entail? Or should we resolve to continue in the best way we can, with whatever strength of body and purpose we can muster? Is there the will, the energy, the commitment to have one more go at getting new blood, perhaps in a new type of body?"
We had originally planned to have a formal debate on this question, which was to have taken place last week, but several members have said that they feel an informal discussion may be a more approproppiate and so this is what will take place.
The Prseident has produced a paper, which will form the basis of the discussion
Peter Tracey and Peter Firth will initially outline the situation and then the discussion will be open to all. We will provide the option for members to join by Skype.
If a conclusion is not reached, the discussion will be continued next week with the aim of reaching a decision as to whether or not the Rotary Club of Newcastle upon Tyne should continue as a Rotary Club beyond the end of this Rotary year.
