International Service: The Bigogwe Project

The Rotary Club of Newcastle upon Tyne supported a rural Health Centre in North-West Rwanda by providing an ultrasound scanner for the maternity department

Sensory Rooms for Special Needs Children

We are working in conjunction with other Rotary Clubs to raise funds to Equip Sensory Rooms in facilities in Newcastle upon Tyne and Consett

Rotary Club Meeting

Instead of meeting at the Holiday Inn this week we met for lunch in the Cafe at St Nicholas' Cathedral before having a guided tour of the refurbished cathedral.

Rotary Club Lunch Meeting

After a break of nearly eighteen months, we resumed our face to face meetings today. As John Gillespie was unable to celebrate his 100th birthday last year as planned, we gave him a surprise party.

Community Service: Scotswood Natural Community Garden

The Rotary Club of Newcastle upon Tyne is pleased to have been able to support the work of the Scotswood Natural Community Garden in its work among young people in the City.

Christmas Charity Collection in Eldon Square

This year we were allocated three days for our annual street collection in Eldon Square, collecting from 12noon - 2pm each day from 17th - 19th December. The charity we collected for is Newcastle Vision Support.

Charity Collection - Anderson & Garland Auction Preview Evening

We are grateful to Anderson & Garland for the opportunity of collecting at the private viewing evening for the Sept 2018 Fine Art Auction. Thanks to the generosity of clients we were able to collect £655 for our chosen charity, Newcastle Vision Support.

Rotary Club Christmas Lunch

We met for our annual Christmas luncheon, a highlight of our Rotary year, when we enjoy food and friendship as well as making donations to some of the local charities whose work we are supporting.

Visit to the Discovery Museum

A party of ten of us enjoyed a guided tour of the former Coop Warehouse that is now Newcastle's Discovery Museum - a very interesting building. This was followed by an enjoyable lunch at Mario's Italian Restaurant

Piano Project

As part of our project to increase awareness of Rotary in general, and the Rotary Club of Newcastle upon Tyne in particular, we have installed a Piano in the new portico of Newcastle Central Railway Station

Harold Robson's Second Zip-wire Slide

Not content with being the oldest person in the UK to ride a Zip-wire for charity when he crossed the Tyne in April in support of the Alzheimer's Society, he undertook a second ride in October to help the President's chosen Charity, MacMillan Cancer Care.

Christmas Street Collections

For many years we have held a charity collection in the Newcastle central shopping area in the weeks leading up to Christmas. In recent years this has been in Eldon Square. Many charities have benefited thanks to the generosity of the people of the City.

President's

President Stephen arranged an afternoon tea at Horton Grange to mark the approaching end of his Presidential year. It proved a very enjoyable occasion with excellent weather for drinks in the garden beforehand.

Open Day Event at Fleming Court Care Home

We were invited to participate in an open day at this local Care home and to be the beneficiary of a Raffle for which a number prizes have been donated by local businesses.

Polio Eradication

The eradication of polio is one of Rotary's most significant efforts. We have helped immunise more than 2.5 billion children against polio in 122 countries. We have reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent worldwide and we won't stop until we end the disease

Christmas Lunch Meeting

We meet for our Christmas Lunch ate the New Kent Hotel. As well as a delicious Festive Meal, the programme will include a Christmas Message, our annual Christmas Charity Appeal and presentations of cheques to charities. Guests are welcome.

Rotary Club Lunch Meeting

We met for lunch as usual. After lunch, outgoing President Jo delivered her final message to the Club and handed over her Chain of office to incoming President Stephen.

Centenary Dinner and Birthday Party

We celebrated the 100th anniversary of the formation of our Club with a dinner at the Marriott Gosforth Park Hotel.

President's Afternoon Tea Party

In place of the traditional Presidents Night to mark the end of his presdential year, Peter hosted a Sunday Afternoon tea-party at Horton Grange.

Rotary Club Lunch Meeting

We met as usual for lunch at the New Kent Hotel. After lunch we had our annual Presidential Handover ceremony. Outgoing President, Peter handed over his regalia to incoming President Jo.

BBC

We will be hosting a live broadcast of BBC Radio 4's "Any Questions?" in the RGS Performing Arts Centre as part of our Centenary Year programme of events.

Wine Tasting Evening

We held an enjoyable evening at the New Kent Hotel when Majestic Wines hosted a Wine Tasting Evening with the theme "Old World; New World".

Christmas Lunch

This was Christmas Lunch. The proceedings commenced with an appropriate Christmas message given by Rev Dr Pauline Pearson of St. George's Church, Jesmond and continued with food, fellowship and presentations.

Christmas Charity Collection- Eldon Square

We held our annual charity collection in Eldon Square Shopping Centre from 8th to 11th December this year. The Beneficiaries are CHUFF and the Percy Hedley Foundation, including the Northern Counties School

Rotary Club Lunch Meeting

There was no lunchtime meeting today. Members were invited to join a trip to Kielder to see the work of the Calvert Trust.

Songs from the Shows

We arranged for Jane Kitson and Derek Minto, who gave us a very enjoyable "Geordie Evening" last May, to come back and entertain us with their presentation of "Songs from the shows".

Please support President Len by coming to his President's Night Celebration. The programme will include Dinner, entertainment and good fellowship. Please bring guests.

Christmas Lunch

We held our Christmas Celebration Lunch on 18th December. The programme included the Christmas Message, given by Jaeuk Park, and presentations of cheques in relation to our Christmas Collection and Appeal.

Christmas Collection 2013

We held our annual charity street collection in Eldon Square over lunchtimes on four consecutive days between Monday 9th December and Thursday 12th December, collecting on behalf of the Newcastle Society for Blind People.

Visit to Scotswood Natural Community Garden

Join us to visit the Scotswood Natural Community Garden - a project working with young people in the West End of Newcastle.

Visit to Alnwick Rotary Club

We made an official visit to the Rotary Club of Alnwick. Eighteen members and guests made upparty and we dined in the Olympic Suite. This room is famous for its panelling, which is from the SS Olympic, which was the sister shipog the ill-fated "Titanic"

Jazz Night

We had an enjoyable evening with the Maine Street Jazzmen and Olive at the Ponteland United Reformed Church.

Visit to the Aston Workshops

A group of twenty enjoyed a guided tour of the Aston Workshops at Beamish seeing some wonderful cars, some in pristine condition and some under the process of restoration. Afterwards we enjoyed an excellent meal at the Black Horse.

Visit to Nissan car factory

Members of the Rotary Club of Newcastle upon Tyne had a guided tour of the Nissan Car factory in Sunderland.

Visit to the North of England Mining Institute

The Projects Committee arranged a visit to the The North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers at Neville Hall in Westgate Road, Newcastle.

In-Store Charity Collection

Between 10am and 6pm, members of the Rotary Club of Newcastle upon Tyne were in the Tesco Extra Store at Kingston Park giving customers of the store the opportunity o help local charities by contribution to our in-store charity collection.

Jazz Night

We had an enjoyable and entertaining evening with the Maine Street Jazzmen at Ponteland Memorial Hall, followed by a pie and pea supper

Christmas Street Collection - Eldon Square

We held our annual Charity Street Collection in Eldon Square Shopping Centre between the hours of 12 noon and 2pm on four days in the run-up to Christmas.

Christmas Street Collection

Each year, our Club holds carries out a Street Collection in Eldon Square shopping Centre to raise funds for a local charity. For 2010, the collection was in aid of Maggies Centres who are planning to build a Cancer Caring Centre in Newcastle next year.

District Conference

A number of our members attended the Rotary District 1030 Conference in Peebles. Our party stayed at the Cardrona Hotel and by all accounts had a very jolly time!

plumpy'nut campaign

Instigated by President Linda and ably assisted by President -elect Surinder (both qualified Yoga instructors), members attending our weekly lunch now have the opportunity to engage in some healthy exercise before they eat.

President Rattan Lal Jain hosted a very enjoyable evening at the New Kent Hotel for his President's Night

Club Lunch Meeting

There was no lunch meeting this day. Instead we held a special "Race Night" in the evening at the New Kent Hotel as a celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

Visit to the Literary and Philosophical Society (Lit. & Phil.)

The Projects Committee arranged a guided tour of the Lit & Phil library in Newcastle. This proved to be a very interesting visit. Our Club President, accompanied by five past presidents enjoyed the tour led by City Guide.

Visit to Dewentcote Steel Furnace

We arranged a guided visit to the Derwentcote Steel Furnace, in the Derwent valley near the hamlet of Hamsterley Mill.

Rotary Exchange trip to Zandvoort

On 28th April 2011, a group of Club members, with spouses, embarked on the ferry, MS "Princess of Norway" at the International Ferry Terminal, North Shields en-route to the Netherlands to visit the Rotary Club of Zandvoort.

After lunch speaker

Alex Hastie gave the first part of a talk about North Shields Fish Quay. We were also delighted to welcome to our Club our former mamber, Rtn Lan long, MBE, who was visiting the area.

Shelter Box Display

Our International Service Committee arranged a display of the Shelter Box at Grey's Monument in the city.

President's Night

As our President, Rtn. Michael Sehgal, will be hosting his President's night this evening at the Mansion House, we have no lunchime meeting today.

Guided Tour of Guildhall and Newcastle Quayside

Join us for a tour led by City Guide, Freda Thompson. Freda has already spoken about the Quayside on two occasions at weekly lunch meetings of our Club and is arranging a private viewing of the Guildhall.
