MORPETH ROTARY NEW PRESIDENT FOR 2023-2024

The new Rotary year starts on the 1 July and so at the last Morpeth Rotary meeting there was a handover from President Arif Shahab to new President Julie Mulqueen. Arif had been president for the first full year since the dreadful pandemic. His goals had been to to have members enjoy the fellowship and have fun, to increase the Rotary public presence in Morpeth, and to start new and useful local and international projects. There was diversity, new events and fundraising, including; a celebration of Duvali; a visit to the Sikh temple; the Spring Ball that raised around £2000; the Tree of Light; a disbursment of £5700 to charities and £1500 sent to support victims of the floods in Pakistan.

Julie gave a special welcome to the five new members and noted that another four would be joining soon.  There will be the usual full programme of new speakers; a range of visits, starting with Ad Gefrin, and a waste recycling site; the station improvement garden project will continue; there are plans for a wishing well and to name a local road for Rotary; an intercontinental charity link is in place with the Rotary Club of Karachi; local school competitions will include photography and music; and the many social and fellowship events will start with a party for 55 to celebrate Rotary new year's eve on 30 June.

Vice President, Gary Witheyman of Newbiggin was inducted.
