Helping the next generation.
Lacking basic reading qnd writing skills cqn be tremendous disadvantage.
In partnership with local secondary schools in the Thanet area, RCOT is working on the following focus areas:
- Reading for pleasure
- Reading for learning
- Building Vocabulary
- Wider writing and developing different writing disciplines
Thanet has 18% of children living in low income families. Thanet's schools have to contend with the same inflation pressures that households are currently experiencing and all of this makes it difficult to provide access and support for quality literacy initiatives, such as well stocked school liberaries.
Our partners, Kate Greig, CEO of Coastal Academies Trust and chair of Thanet headteachers' group and Francesca Wilkins, the owner of The Margate Bookshop, would like your support in our efforts to raise money to support local schools and young people to improve literacy standards We are working with Dane Court, King Ethelbert, Royal Harbour, Hartsdown, Ursuline, St Georges, Chatham House and Clarenden House schools and Charles Dickens.
Kate Greig comments "Thanet headteachers work collaboratively and collectively to give our amazing youngsters in Thanet the best possible education we can. We are all delighted to be working with Rotary in our new project to support young people with enhanced reading resources. Through this partnership we will improve access to books for everyone and develop their love of reading and writing"
Francesca Wilkins adds that 'she has been working for some years on helping get books into schools and the LITERACY MATTERS! partnership with Rotary is a great alignment of her great passion to inspire young people to be avid readers and creative writers.'
