Storrington & Pulborough District Rotary welcomes hundreds of customers looking for a good read from the vast range of pre-owned books on display on Saturday mornings at Place Villerest, Storrington.
The Club has other sales outlets in Pulborough Station and Stable Antiques in Storrington and attends a number of local village events and selected gatherings including the Sussex Steam Rally and the Rotary Bank Holiday Car Boot Sales in Storrington.
Book sales are boosted by new initiatives like selling books on World of Books, and eBay.
The running and organisation of the bookstall is carried out by a team of five with the support of other Club members and Rotary Friends. This involves sorting and selling the books donated by members of the public.
Thousands of pounds have been raised helping the Rotary Club develop its community support programme including - Young Person’s development at Lodge Hill, Christmas Sacks distribution to needy families, local Pop in Lunches for the elderly and Monthly Film Nights helping local folk and those in isolation enjoy the latest cinema entertainment. Other Local worthy causes and charities have also benefitted. Internationally, where disasters have struck, the Club has been able to help, more recently in Ukraine and Pakistan.
Project leader Wendy Rendal-Jones is grateful for the support of her small team and others who are directly involved in this major fund-raising project. “Sponsorship from Wall Bros Carpets and Flooring and the generous offer of space for our book sorting cabin at Instone-Air in Storrington has helped to ensure the success of our book selling programme and Rotary has, as a result, been able to extend its charitable outreach”.
