Club Walk

Wed, Jul 29th 2026 at 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

The walk is a combination of road, pastures, steps, bridge, and a couple of styles, in the South Tyne starting from Featherstone.

I am planning the next Club walk for Wednesday the 29th of July 2026

The 4.5 Mile walk will be setting off from Featherstone Park Station Car park (NY682607) and will pass Featherstone Castle presently a private residence but with a varied history from Training American troops in WW11 and then a Prisoner Of War camp for German officers. Our walk will take us over the South Tyne and along the side of the river where we will pass a River flow Gauging station and catch glimpses of the derelict buildings from the POW camp. We then make our way towards the Lambley Viaduct, an impressive structure towering above the river, built in 1852 and in use until 1976. It carried the Alston branch line from Haltwhistle. After walking over the Viaduct our return is via the course of the old railway track back to the car park. A suitable lunch stop will be sourced for those who wish to do so.

The walk is a combination of road, pastures, steps, bridge, and a couple of styles.

If you are considering joining the walk please let me know and I will furnish further details, you would be very welcome.
