AWARDS 2022
Southend Rotary commandeered Zen City in Westcliff on 12/07/22 for their annual 'handover'. This sees one year's president hand over their chain of office to the next. David Porter was the lucky recipient, but was then surprised by a trio of assistant governors with a coveted Paul Harris Fellowship as recognition for fundraising support in maximising our charity fund. In a well hushed up plot twist, one of these assistant governors, Christine Wong, was then ambushed with their own one, for years of tirelessly promoting Rotary Foundation. After a minute's silence for a departed member, and the inevitable raffle, our local assistant governor, Mark Williamson, from Wickford offered words of encouragement, before the Rotarians from no less than four different clubs headed off home for a balmy night.
SOUTHEND ROTARY CELEBRATE SISTER CLUB'S CENTENARY
Southend Rotary enjoyed an invitation to Margate Rotary's belated centenary dinner at Broadstairs on 7th May, alongside dozens of clubs from across the world. Lockdown had delayed it a year, as it did our own centenary celebration. Margate club was chartered 101 years ago and only days before Southend club, and both were sponsored by London Rotary Club, making Margate our 'older sister' on the family tree.
SOUTHEND ROTARY IS 100 YEARS OLD TODAY!
23/02/21 marks the centenary of receiving our charter certificate from Rotary International in 1921, after a group of local businessmen decided to adopt our motto of 'Service Above Self' to do community projects.
