AND ROMFORD ROTARY ENJOYS BEING AN ACTIVE & SUCCESSFUL MEMBER

As a Romford Rotarian you are welcome to attend any Rotary Club Meeting throughout the world although for most of us it will usually be visits to our neighbouring clubs or others in the UK. Nevertheless many of our members do regularly seek out the local club when holidaying or visiting friends and family overseas. Rotary in Britain and Ireland is made up of 55,000 men and women who, as members of over 1850 Rotary Clubs, volunteer their time, talents, skills and energy into improving the lives of people in their local communities and others around the world.

PUTTING SOMETHING BACK

Through our regular weekly meetings, social activities and the friendships formed, the members of the Romford Rotary Club voluntary work together to help those in need in the community – we like to think of it as putting something back. We believe that the real sense of achievement you will experience in helping your local community, and other communities around the world, will be matched by the fun you will have doing it. Our aim is to highlight the FUN in Fundraising.

RAISING FUNDS FOR LOCAL GOOD CAUSES

In Romford we raise funds for good causes through club projects, sometimes individually, and on occasions in collaboration with our neighbouring Rotary Clubs in Havering and also our Rotary District 1240. Monies are raised through a variety of events - such as social evenings, book sales, quiz nights, public Christmas collections – and in the past have been distributed to local charitable organisations such as Saint Francis Hospice; Little Haven Children’s Hospice; the Havering Women’s Refuge; Sure Start; the Salvation Army; the Havering Talking Newspaper. Hope4Havering, Supporting Street Sleepers and many other worthy causes. We offer hands-on-support to other local projects such as The Bottle in the Fridge scheme at the Queen’s Hospital Romford in conjunction with the hospital and other Havering Rotary clubs. We also maintain good relations with Havering Council whose Mayors visit us annually and we always support the incumbent Mayor’s special charity. HELPING YOUNG PEOPLE

The Romford Rotary Club feels that supporting the young people of the borough is a very real priority for us. We have organised regular annual activities designed to encourage and develop young people such as the Young Musicians Competition and Youth Speaks (promoting good public speaking and debating skills). Both competitions can lead to district and national finals and Havering youngsters have acquitted themselves with distinction on many occasions in the past few years. Romford Rotarians collaborate with local schools in conducting Mock Interviews and we have been informed by teachers that the experience has been very helpful to students being interviewed for their first job. The Club has also promoted drug awareness projects and the local and social history of our borough.

PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR WORK WITH YOUNG PEOPLE HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE BECAUSE OF THE THE CONTINUING RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED ON SCHOOLS BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC & ITS VARIANTS.
