Speaker meeting Mr Lee Taylor 23-Mar-2017

As I was leaving the Railway Hotel after our lunch on the 23rd.March one of our lady Rotarians said to me , "What a lovely man" . She was of course referring to our speaker, Lee Taylor, and I absolutely had to agree. Lee had just shared with us his journey as an employee of TESCO from a school leaver of 15 years old through to his current position of manager of the large store at Gallows Corner. He is a local lad who worked his way up through hard work , a desire to do well and a smart head on young shoulders.
In his very natural, down to earth way Lee provided us with some very interesting facts about Tesco, how it started ,(Tesco was founded in 1919 by Jack Cohen as a group of market stalls. The Tesco name first appeared in 1924, after Cohen purchased a shipment of tea from T. E. Stockwell and combined those initials with the first two letters of his surname, and the first Tesco store opened in 1931 (or 1929) in Burnt Oak, Barnet.) and how it has developed into the multi million pound business we know today. He spoke with great enthusiasm and humour and it is very evident that he is passionate about his work, his workers and his customers.
I am certain that Lee will go far and that the TESCO company should be very proud of their young manager who represented them so very well. What a lovely man with such grand ideas to customer and employer/employee relations a refreshing attitude that I believe we can all learn from.
