Our Speaker today, 12th. January 2017, was local boy Mark Davison. For many years Mark was a civil servant but as the years passed by and enthusiasm for the job began to wane he felt more and more that the Church was calling. This calling now sees Mark as the Minister of the Upminster Baptist Church (UBC). His talk touched upon his vision of how the church can help the local community in those areas of deprivation peculiar to this part of the borough.
As an ex pupil of mine and a fellow musician he is the mature version of the young lad I taught in secondary school. He is personable, smart, articulate, confident and above all caring. As he spoke I could not help comparing his work and service to the community with many of the things that we do and aspire to in Rotary. Service above self was a thread that ran all through his talk; it was most enjoyable and informative. Many thanks go to the Reverend Mark Davison from the UBC and our best wishes go with him in his future work.
