Anne Garnish

The Evolution of the Sidecar

Wow! We sure had an interesting speaker today, a speaker with much detail from personal experience.

Anne, a co-rider (passenger) who has competed in the 2012 FSRA/ACU British FII championship, the FSRA F350 Championship and various club F2 rounds. In 2013 Anne passengered David Saunders on the Willow Racing KCR Suzuki 600cc F2 sidecar at the TT and Oliver's Mount. In 2014 Anne was co-rider for Simon Smith's MR Equipe for short-circuit rounds and Francois Leblond's Shelborne at the TT.

Anne started racing sidecars in September 2009 after a chance meeting with Wayne 'Bob The Builder' Lockey at the 2008 TT. and in 2010 Anne started the season with Stu Stobbart on his F2 Shelborne chassis, then moved to the Lumley F2 of Dean Nicholls. In 2011 Dean & Anne formed Team Lick Racing and achieved 3rd in both the North Glos and Bemsee championships. In 2012 They competed in the ACU/FSRA British F2 championship and some club rounds, before an amicable split to pursue there our individual goals. Since then Anne raced on the Banshee Windle YPVS F350 of Joe Heys in the F350 championship, and competed in club rounds with various F2 drivers on a number of chassis types. In 2013 Anne raced with David Saunders on the Willow Racing F2, doing the TT and Oliver's Mount.

In 2013 there TT dream ended on Thursday 30th May at the Les Graham Memorial, during a practice lap, having already qualified at 91.4mph.

Anne returned to short circuit racing in mid-September 2013 and in 2014 Anne worked with two drivers on two very different chassis, one UK short-circuit as a 'development' co-rider for Simon Smith, and the Isle of Man TT with veteran TT racer Francois Leblond (#33).

It isn't often that we have a speaker with so much energy that can explain from personal experience such an interesting subject that I know most if not all present could relate too.

Especially the personal experience of sustaining such horrific injuries whilst driving around a bend in a Race and the following year back again racing, it sure must take a lot of courage and dedication in such a fast atmosphere of RACING in a Sidecar, especialy amongst other "champion racers".

We understand that Anne has now retired from racing but it is obvious the passion is still there as demonstrated today by bringing the races to us.

Thank you Anne we Rotarians wish you all the very best for the future and that you may continue bringing your story to others.
