The concert at The Windmill Hall in Upminster was the perfect setting for the Rotary Club of Hornchurch and Upminster to celebrate St. George's Day. Building on Rtn. Christine Smith's idea of celebrating our national day Rtn. Jim Haines, ably assisted by Pat and his own band of helpers, set about organising a big band jazz night.
To say it was a triumph is an understatement. It was a roaring and swinging success.
With the fabulous Ken Turner Big Band providing the music, wonderful singer and compere Mark Stratford skilfully guided us through a most enjoyable night of music and some dancing. The evening was rounded off to perfection when the band, stepping out of their comfort zone, accompanied the audience with rousing choruses of Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and Auld Lang's Syne sung with gusto and much flag waving.
Well done Jim, Pat and friends and all those Rotarians who helped in any way to make this a Swinging Success.
