Our speaker on Thursday 12th. March was Richard Morey who was born in bred in Upminster about seventy years ago. Richard's talk was entitled A stroll around Upminster Part 1 and covered the area north of St. Mary's Lane. What a fantastic 'stroll' it was with Richard providing masses of information which was made all the more interesting because he could add the personal touches that only a 'local' can do. The information was beautifully illustrated with masses of unseen archive photos together with some taken by Richard from the identical spot where the original photographer stood. Some were taken from the spire of St. Lawrence's church and provided us with a 'Then' and 'Now' comparison. Brilliant! I cannot wait to hear ,and see, Part 2 of a Stroll around Upminster which covers the Southern Part of our town.
