Wine Tasting
When my daughter Alison mentioned that as part of her job she received sample bottles of wine, for
possible inclusion on restaurant wine lists and the number of these had built
up taking up valuable office space the idea of a wine tasting was born.
Once the idea was planted she become enthusiastic, wishing to deliver a talk (lecture) on wines,
a subject on which she has become knowledgeable through training, study and personal experience! The International Committee saw this as an opportunity for fund raising and was quick to take the offer on board. A venue was available, thanks to the co-operation of the 1St Upminster Scout Group who have their HQ in Brookdale Avenue Upminster with a hall of adequate size and with the appropriate facilities.
After some difficulty with a date for the event which suited all involved a Friday evening in August
was agreed. Alison was a little concerned that the selection of wine she had would not allow her to demonstrate adequately the range of wines available. The assistance of an old friend Jeremy Lee, wine connoisseur and manager of the Harvey Nichols wine shop was sought, he was happy to help and provided a range of wine to supplement the talk/tasting and agreed to assist Alison on the
night.
