Holidays At Home

10-14th August 2026

Holidays at Home was held at Christ Church. Rotary supported with a £400 grant and practical help from 10 Rotarians on the team. It was a great success.

We had 50 senior citizen guests on the list and an average of 35 attended each day, with some folk coming every day and others only when they were able.  We had craft, quizzes and board games in the morning - and, for some folk, simply the chance to sit and chat, as many live alone.

A cooked two course lunch was served every day and the afternoon entertainment, funded by the Rotary grant, consisted of: Lost direction, a male singing group from Mersea, Steve Williams (who gave his service free), Graham Long from Paskells (also a singer, who gave his time free) Frosty the magician, and finally The Danny La Rue Story - Frederick Douglas entertainment - absolutely incredible!  After tea and cake each day, folks were transported home either by their own means or via Community 360 bus.

An incredible 5 days, which were made even more enjoyable by the team of helpers who eased the load no end.
