Once again we have been planting purple crocus corms in the Wellmeadow, made easier by Blair in Bloom cutting the turf for us. In total Blairgowrie Rotary bought 32,000 corms: 4000 each were donated to the local Bloom groups, PKC bought the 4000 for the Wellmeadow, and Coupar Angus an additional 6000. Local Primary schools will receive some, and members have bought quite a lot! The money for the corms goes to End Polio Now, Rotary’s campaign to finally eradicate polio. The crocuses are purple, because that is the colour pinkie fingers are stained to show that polio vaccine has been received. Two years ago we were almost there, but Covid and the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, one of the last areas where polio was endemic, has made the immunisation campaign difficult and dangerous.

more Purple for Polio - what a difference a year makes! This year, because of Covid, we had to be socially distanced, so hard work for two Rotarians!
