Computers for Tanzania Change Lives

.

It seems no time since Datoga Foundation and Rotary Club of Chelmsford Mildmay launched their first project of Computers for Tanzania schools, with the intention of helping and supporting students in primary and secondary schools in the use of computers and developing ICT skills.

Yet for some students life has changed dramatically - some have their own business, some have diplomas in different computer courses and some have dreams to be computer professionals.

Reta Makoye is just one who has gained from the project.  He is a primary school teacher. In 2012 he was one of the first students to join Datoga Foundation Computer Training Centre in Hanang-Katesh.  After three months he completed his studies in word processing, presentation, spread sheet, internet and computer use.  He decided to continue with computer studies, and is now a second year student at the Institute of Education and Management Technology (Open University of Tanzania) studying for a Diploma in Computer Science.

Next, he is dreaming of becoming a software engineer and inspiring more teachers and students to get into ICT studies.

There are many further achievements. Following his skills in office programmes Makoye managed to type up exams at their school for which he was paid.

“I would like to thank gratefully Datoga Foundation in partnership with Rotary Chelmsford Mildmay-UK for their encouragement in studying ICT particularly basic Computer application.

“Also I would like to persuade my fellow teachers like Yohana, Amina and Panga to join the computer training centre’’ he added.
