We returned to the Hive for today’s Fellowship Meeting, which was arranged by Alison Moses. She was not able to be there, so our Attendance Officer, Keith Otter, came along with a list of members’
orders in case there were any queries on the day. That was not exactly an onerous task as there were only seven of us. On the other hand, some members were vague as to what they had ordered and we did have to to chase up our dishes a couple of times. Any rumours that the picture on the left shows Keith trying to eat his baguette are completely untrue.
Francis Whitbread’s bike was parked outside when we arrived. He had stayed overnight with a friend nearby but said he had cycled to Cooksmill Green and back that morning.
This being a Fellowship Meeting, we had no formal business but just conversed. We did, however, briefly discuss possibilities for future meetings. David Axon agreed to contact a venue near to Chelmsford who were not able to accommodate our Thursday meetings to see whether they would be able to do so if we switched to Wednesdays. We don’t yet know what the Ivy Hill Hotel will charge us after this November; it would be helpful for us to have some alternatives lined up in case we feel the new cost is excessive. We are aware, of course, that food price inflation is high at the moment.
Another matter touched upon was the plans for the centenary celebrations in 2027. Instead of forming a joint committee, the other Chelmsford Rotary Clubs would prefer us to take the lead but they are willing to help.
