Today we once again went down to Sanctus, the café now run by a charity and exclusively serving the homeless and others in impoverished circumstances.
Thirteen of us arrived in ones and twos. Some of us went and chatted to Sanctus’s regular customers. Their stories are always interesting, particularly when they explain just why they have ended up needing the help of Sanctus and other charities.
When most of the regular customers had eaten, the staff and volunteers kindly put some of their square tables together and served us with lunch. We decided on our last visit that we would always eat the same food that they served their regulars. Some of those regulars were still there, eating or drinking tea or coffee, but they didn’t disturb us and hopefully we did not disturb them. Our Club meetings don’t tend to be raucous.
We just had a general chat around the table rather than a formal meeting. We did, however, wish President Francis a pleasant few weeks in Spain, which he and Jackie go to in a few days’ time.
