Santa’s Grotto

A man and a woman dressed as elves standing by a table with two people behind itCovid did not seem to put people off attending the Chelmsford Christmas Market on Saturday, 4 December. There were plenty of stalls, both inside and in the Cathedral grounds. The stalls inside included our Santa’s Grotto, which we set up in St Peter’s Chapel at the rear of the Cathedral.

That didn’t mean we only had to work on the Saturday. We went there the previous day in order to convert the chapel into a suitable place for Santa. We called it a Grotto but a certain Club member thought it looked more like Santa’s Beach Hut! That didn’t worry the children.

Eighty-nine children spoke to Santa and we raised £445. John Knott stepped into Santa’s boots at very short notice following the sad and sudden death of John Scammell just a few days earlier. We are grateful to all those members who helped set up and on the day, including friends from our Corporate Member Backhouse Solicitors.
