Before today’s meeting those present recorded individual greetings messages to one of our members who is unable to attend physical meetings at the moment owing to ill health. Three of our members will be visiting him next week and will give him the resulting combined video.
We received the usual reports from the Treasurer and our various committees. For over a year we have been unable to hold any of our normal fundraising activities because of lockdowns. We did raise considerable funds by holding quizzes and by members donating the money they would otherwise have spent on Club lunches but these were allocated to the President’s Charity fund and have now been disbursed. General charitable funds are lower than normal. We will have to be less generous with Club donations to other causes until such time as these funds can be replenished.
On the other hand, we have been successful in raising funds for our Nepal project and have received a District Grant to support this. The Foundation & International Committee continues to be very active.
The work of our other committees is gradually returning to normal. The Public Image Committee aims to revitalise our Facebook page and is looking into different ways of presenting our Online Bulletin.
When the new school term begins our Youth Service Committee will try to restart the County High Interact Club and the Cathedral School Rotakids Club, both of which have been inactive over the last year. (The first lockdown came into effect just six weeks after the Rotakids Club was chartered.) We already have schools interested the Youth Speaks: A Debate and Special Young Chef competitions, so expect those to go ahead. We don’t yet know whether it will be practical to hold the Young Musician competition.
