Saturday 28th January 2023 saw some members of our club support our fellow Rotraians in the Rotary Club of Billericay Town for its Rotary Club quiz, organised by Nick Lang and Jan Lewis.
Billericay Town always make the effort to ensure their quizzes are a little out of the ordinary and this year’s individualities included two music rounds, each of which had a hidden theme and a ‘speed round’ where team members worked individually against the clock on different challenges, including anagrams, number puzzles, dingbats and a pack of different smells to be identified.
Another round was titled ‘GCSE Exam’ and this consisted of a set of questions taken from recent GCSE examination papers, covering Maths, Statistics, French, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Religious Studies, Food Technology, Design & Technology, Textiles, Music, and Psychology. We just about scraped six A-stars out of twelve.
They opted for the ‘after the questions’ Joker nomination system, which meant we could play our joker on a round where we thought we had a good few right. We opted to go on the ‘Whatsapp’ round, which comprised questions for which all the answers included the letters ‘APP’. This proved a smart choice as we scored eleven and a half out of a possible twelve.
Sadly our performance overall on the other rounds wasn’t up to this peak and we ended the evening a moderately respectable 11th out of 15.
A fun evening though, which raised over £1,300 for TEECH. (A charity which members may recall plays a major part in organising and manning the convoys of Aid to Moldova and Ukraine in which Barry Howe of Billericay Mayflower Rotary club is so involved, and which we have helped sponsor in the past).
