A very different investiture this year for the incoming officers of the Quilters RotaKids. Covid made the normal routine impossible but, despite the event being staged as a “real virtual” ceremony on March 30, this year, it was agreed by all: “Still a great day!”
Instead of visiting the new RotaKids club at their school to meet the whole club and present the badges of office to the committee members, the formal investiture went ahead as “near-normal” on Zoom.
President Peter and Youth Chairman Mike Sinclair and seven other club members joined Suzanne Sinclair of Year 6 and the four incoming RotaKids officers.
During the year the RotaKids would normally raise money and complete projects, and would end the year with a presentation of their achievements to the club. Covid-19 has made this impossible, and their normal fundraising activities have not been possible. Something special needed to be arranged so that they wouldn’t miss out on the ceremony, so we worked with RotaKids lead teacher Suzi Murray to arrange a suitable alternative - a Zoom Investiture.
At the Zoom meeting, Mike Sinclair introduced us and ran through what would have normally happened at this investiture, and then passed over to President Peter who described the role of RotaKids, and the principles behind its formation and operation.
He praised the RotaKids for their “Dementia Friends” Pen Pal project where they adopted local older people suffering from Dementia and wrote to them on a regular basis. Each year the RotaKids complete projects for charity and despite Covid-19, plans are being developed for what the club might still achieve before the end of school year.
President Peter said he looked forward to a presentation later in July if it could be arranged.
He then asked Suzanne to make the presentation of each of the officers badges on his behalf, reading out each name in turn. President Adam Morrell, Vice President Eliza Lee, Secretary Evie West, and Treasurer Ashton King. Each Of them recited the RotaKids Pledge before Suzanne handed over the badge. The new RotaKids wristbands "RotaKids Make a Difference” will be issued later.
President Peter thanked the children, remarking on their maturity, and also thanked Suzanne and lead teacher Suzi Murray.
