The Rotary Club of Derby prides itself on the work that it does in the Community but many of our regular projects have been affected by the Covid19 pandemic and the various restrictions. Although many of our regular programmes have not been able to take place we have adapted and delivered some new community based support. See the list below for examples of the work we normally undertake.
This Rotary year we have supported a number of community based projects and we will keep these updated below:
World Earth Day
We joined forces with the Rotary Club of Derby Daybreak and collected 16 bags of litter around Alvaston Park. We recorded 1556 pieces of plastic with Kids Against Plastic
Clearing the Riverside path with the Friends of the River Gardens
We spent a morning clearing a heavily grown footpath on the opposite side of the river to Bass' Recreation Ground in the City Centre. The path had become so overgrown that pedestrians, cyclists and mobility scooters had to use the road.
World Polio Day Crocuses
This year, more parks are benefitting from the beautiful crocuses that the club purchases to help raise awareness of the End Polio Now programme and World Polio Day. Friends groups working in Alvaston Park, Normanton Park, Spondon Parks, Darley Park and Derby's River Gardens.
Eco Greenhouse at Ravensdale Junior School
We spent a day building an eco-greenhouse out of recycled plastic bottles at Ravensdale Junior School
Derby Arboretum's Lark In The Park Event
We provided a range of free, fun, family activities including the human fruit machine, knock the sock, and tin can alley games. These were as popular as ever with families of all ages.
Derby Rotary Satellite Community Allotment
Our allotment has been cleared by our volunteers and produce has started to be planted, ready for donation to foodbanks in the spring.
Loudon Lodge Launch Event
The refurbishment of the former bowls pavilion on Arboretum Park was completed and it became available for the use of community groups.
