2014/15
The Committee will support a tent collection after the V-Festival, courtesy of the Rotary Club of Brewood and we expect that Concord College will once again be staging a concert by their students at which we can collect for Polio Plus.
As ever, the committee and the club will need to be alert to unpredictable but not unexpected disastrous circumstances and respond accordingly.
Fundraising is vital but we should also engage in palpable activity. Last year we had a very successful tool collection, supporting the charity, Tools for Self-Reliance, whereby unwanted hand tools are refurbished and put to good use in Africa.
In similar vein, Sue Henshaw, incoming President of Inner Wheel, has agreed to engage in a joint venture to support the charity, Mary's Meals' Backpack Project. Backpacks are collected and filled with educational materials to support children who have suffered war, poverty, famine, or natural disaster and whose families cannot afford to buy basic things like pencils and copy books, or even suitable clothes for their children to wear to school.
The scheme opens up at least the possibility of sponsorship, involvement with the local community and possibly with schools.
