The visit coincided with the lunchtime break, so the visitors were able to spend time talking with the children as they had their lunch and before the presentation took place. And no, the adults were not allowed to tuck into the fish fingers, chips and peas followed by sticky toffee pudding and cream being enjoyed by the children!
The presentation of fourteen dictionaries to the school is part of the Rotary “Dictionary 4 Life” project which is funded through Rotary and enables Rotary Clubs to donate these illustrated dictionaries to primary schools. The project is now in its fifteenth year and to date well over one million books have been donated.
The Dictionary comprises 1,000 illustrations, 10,000 entries and 20,000 definitions printed in full colour on paper from sustainable forests and contains 288 pages. It has a user’s guide, hints on basic grammar, a history of the English language and a list of recommended web sites. It also includes a vocabulary for the Internet age appropriate for children of primary school age."
