The Rotary Club of Taunton has today announced £250 of support to help Besom, a christian charity that helps those in need.
The purpose of Besom is to be a bridge between those who want to give and those in need. They support people in a number of ways: by collecting and distributing furniture and household items, supplying crisis food boxes including fresh food items and undertaking gardening and decorating projects. They also provide starter packs to those establishing a new home, which may be because they are affected by domestic violence, leaving care, being re-housed or have a need for new accommodation when things get tough.
Through a network of local contacts in agencies such as social care, charities, refuges and family support workers, Besom constantly hears about people living on the edge or in need of some kind; they then seek to offer help for the needs they hear about. Their work is supported by time givers in the Taunton and Wellington area and by donations from local people of good quality furniture and household items as well as gifts of money.
As a result of the Coronavirus Besom is unable to operate its furniture collection and distribution service or undertake projects at this time, however it is continuing to provide food boxes and starter packs for those in need, to which the Club's funding support is making a contribution. Besom regularly prints a Prayer Letter which gives more information about Besom's priorities at this time
Rotary Club President, Tony Cox said, 'We are pleased to support Besom which has a long established connection with the church community and referral agencies within our locality. These funds are one of a number of donations we are making to organisations making a difference to people's lives at this time of need'.
