Rotary helps the Environment

Rotary helps local council to control spread of the dreaded Himalayan Balsam. Impatiens glandulifera, to give it its fancy name is rapidly taking over the natural habitat in Hall Park with the result that it is choking the much needed habitat. When Allerdale B.C. Open spaces manager, Kirsten Mawby asked for members of the public to help she was disappointed when no one volunteered. On hearing of this John Head, Community and Vocational chair for the Rotary Club of Workington offered help. The photos show past President Hughie Stamper, Rotarian Paul Sherwin with club President Keith Beattie (both seated) past President John Head with Kirsten Mawby and the very full van containing sacks of the dreaded plant. In the second photo members are joined by prospective member Phil Tamms.

Once again Rotary helps to find an answer.
